In a speech at the White House on Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump said he would begin imposing a 25 percent tax on imports from Mexico and Canada on Tuesday.

His comments quickly rocked the U.S. stock market, with the S&P 500 falling 2 percent in Monday afternoon trading. Trump had to take political and economic risks as inflation is likely to rise and decades-long trade partnerships with Mexico and Canada are likely to die out.
