As a popular destination for immigrants in recent years, Canada's immigration policy has been the focus of attention both at home and abroad. However, in a recent article co-authored by Adam Legge, Chair of the Business Council of Alberta, and Irfhan Rawji, Managing Partner of Realize Capital Partners and Chair of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Institute for Citizenship, Canada's economic immigration system seems to have strayed away from its original purpose and has failed to fully deliver on its most central promise --ensuring a better life for all Canadians, new and old immigrants, including us Chinese.

Canada's economy is stagnant and Canadians are no better off today than they were in 2014. Productivity is expected to be low and the economy is not growing fast enough to meet the needs of a growing population. As a result, both older Canadians and we Chinese newcomers are disappointed and frustrated. Less than one-third of Canadians believe that current immigration policies are effective, and even one-third of immigrants are unsure if they made the right decision to move to Canada.

In particular, two experts pointed out that there are clear flaws in the current immigration selection mechanism. About half of the immigrants who enter Canada in the economic category are not actually selected for their economic contributions, but rather as spouses and dependents of primary economic immigrants. In addition, the points system is poorly designed. For example, a person with a master's degree in Latin tends to receive more points than a person with a heavy mechanic's certificate, even though the latter has a greater potential for economic contribution in Canada.

最后，两位专家强调了评估与调整机制的重要性。建议将移民政策成效与人均GDP增长等经济繁荣指标挂钩，确保政策方向正确，资源得到高效利用。面对公众对移民目标设定过高的担忧，变革成为了必然趋势。两位专家的呼吁，实质上是对加拿大政府及全社会的一次提醒——移民政策的成功，必须建立在让所有加拿大人受益的基础上。

Finally, two experts emphasized the importance of evaluation and adjustment mechanisms. It suggests linking the effectiveness of immigration policies to indicators of economic prosperity, such as per capita GDP growth, to ensure that policies are going in the right direction and resources are being used efficiently. In the face of public concern that immigration targets have been set too high, change has become inevitable. The two experts' call is essentially a reminder to the Canadian government and society as a whole - the success of immigration policy must be based on benefiting all Canadians.

It is incumbent upon the Canadian government to deliver on its immigration promise and achieve true shared prosperity through effective policies that make life better for everyone.
